Black pepper (Piper nigrum) is a flowering vine in the family Piperaceae, cultivated for its fruit, known as a peppercorn. This Black pepper is usually dried and used as a spice. When fresh and fully mature, the fruit is about 5 mm (0.20 in) in diameter, dark red, and contains a single seed, like all drupes.
The Meghalaya’s black pepper is well-known for its high pungency and sturdy aroma. In Northeast India, Meghalaya is the main producer of black pepper. These black peppers are organic and such product is obtained from many villages in East Jaintia Hills District and other districts of the state. This black pepper contained rich flavour and spicy aroma and make it the best experienced when crushed and added to a meal.
